A strange calm

I was really starting to get nervous about the big night last week. For some reason I have reached a nice calm. I know I will be nervous before it starts, but....I will be absolutely surrounded by nice faces and wonderful people. I especially look forward to meeting those people who just will come out of shear curiosity. Perhaps I should work on some magic tricks. Lame? I do think we will all have a nice time together. I'll try to provide some pretty music, we'll have some laughing, because I plan on telling on or two silly stories on myself. Anyhoo, looking forward to it!
-m

A friend of mine referred to me as a nerd the other day. And sometimes I forget that I'm a nerd, because I know hard-core nerds and I think I pale in comparison.
It just feels weird

It's now less than two weeks away from my CD release party and it just brings about some strange feelings for me. I've played and spoken in front of groups many times, but it's an entirely different thing to invite people to come to an event just to see me. I used to think that musicians and artists were "chosen" by some unseen entity. It used to be the big music labels making the decisions on who would be the next big thing. It has only been within the last year that it really always begins with one thing: The artist decides to share his/her work with others. It's really as simple as that. Well, the beginning is simple, anway. How the artist actually gets in front of you is another story.
I have been listening to instrumental music lately trying to find established artists that I am similar to. Let me tell you, this is no easy task. There is just a ton of this music out there. So I am always thinking about how to get through and stand apart from all of those music choices. If you decide to attend the CD release party, I think you'll find that while I love the craft of creating music, I don't take myself too seriously and I believe we'll have a good time together. Anyway, I'll stop rambling.....

I make women cry

Not to say that I am mean to women in any way... ; )
Based upon feedback, this is probably the second highest comment I get, from women primary: "It made me want to cry".

It's like therapy for only $10. Ok, maybe not. But I think about it as a good thing. It wasn't until I finshed the project and went back and listened to the whole CD a few times that I realized kind of the 'sad' theme throughout. I guess I should clarify, it does have some sad elements, but always has hope.

I suspect that it makes men cry as well, it's just that they don't feel like telling me that....

Parent approved sleep aid

It was a funny thing. I wrote this music for me to go to sleep to. Although, I do have three children, I did not write this music with children in mind. This is probably the top comment I get back from people about the music. Parents across the country are putting their young children to bed to the music. Two things about this fascinate me: One, I don't know that the children exactly "like" the music, as in I don't know that they ever ask to listen to it during the day. Two, they listen to it every night for months and months. Some for more than two years. As far as I can tell, it just becomes something very comfortable and they associate it with relaxing and sleeping. That's wonderful! This goes for babies and kids alike.
One funny note about this, my nephew has been going to bed to my music since 2006 and just realized a couple of months ago that it actually has more than 3 songs on the CD. How cute!
